Horseware Australia Jumping Grand Prix
This exciting competition is the ultimate show of athleticism, precision and speed - watch as horse and riders tackle a world cup course of 1.6m jumps designed by the acclaimed Gavin Chester as they vie for the title of Australian Open Champion and take home a share of the $120,000 prize pool!
This exhilarating competitive sport was born in the 18th century and involved competitors taking off across country to jump obstacles. Spectators were not happy with this format as they wished to follow the riders as they jumped. This led to jumping competitions being held in arenas, thus show jumping as we know it today was born.
In today’s format show jumping involves a skilled horse and rider combination tackling 10 to 13 "knockable" obstacles. Penalties are incurred for each obstacle that is knocked down or refused. In some classes riders ride "against the clock" incurring time penalties for not completing the course within a set time limit.
The jumping excitement doesn't end with the Horseware Australia Jumping Grand Prix, with the Horseware Australia Jumping Prelude and the Fiber Fresh 1.30m Jumping Competition also taking centre stage at EQUITANA Melbourne. First up will be the Horseware Australia Jumping Prelude on the Rowville Arena at 9:30am on Thursday to kick-off EQUITANA! Then on Friday the Fiber Fresh 1.30m Jumping at 2:00pm is the perfect lead-in event before the action of the Horseware Australia Jumping Grand Prix gets underway. Strap in for some amazing jumping action!
